Abstract

This research line seeks to measure the changes that environmental stressors generate on past and present productivity of the marine systems in the Antarctic and Subantarctic regions. We are studying the rates and variations in the primary production, the impact of fresh water flow into the marine system (freshening), the past trend in temperature and productivity (paleo-oceanography) and the acidification of the ocean. One of the fundamental questions is to determine future trends of the dominant communities at the lower trophic levels.
