Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out the prevalence of chronic diseases and use of medication by people over 65 year of age; and the importance in clinical evaluation for dental care. In this study a ramdom sample of 122 clinical records from patients attendings primary care services at Villa Alemana were choosen. The outcome showed that 78%of people studied had chronic disease; of which 43,7% had one disease and 56,2% had two diseases. the most prevalence illness found was hypertension with 52,4%, Rheumatic disease followed with 20,4%, Mellitus Diabetes with 14,7% and finally obesity at 11,4%. The study also showed that 70,4% consumed medication; of them 46% took this medication for cardiovascular conditions; 19,9% took medication for digestive and metabolic conditions and finally 19,3% took medication for haemotopoietic and blood conditions. The use of medication for chronic diseases found in average 2,1 medication per person.
