Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate a rpeventive program in oral health applied in children who started at the age of 7 and were controlled up to 13 years. Methodology: Information was gathered from the records of 362 students who were clinically evaluated in the Módulo Odontopediátrico Simón Bolivar (MOSB) to the initial age of 7 years and controlled periodically up to 13 years. The variables gathered from complete and available records were: gender, index of oral hygiene, numbre of controls, DMFT, sealed teeth, educatinal establishment of origin for classification for socioeconomic level. Results: Gender distribution of the charts included was 54% feminine and 46% male. DMFT index of the children at the age of 13, after 6 years of attending the MOSB's preventive program was 0,91. Sealed teeth reached 94% with an average of 3,1 teeth resealed in n average of 3,3 times. There was not statistically significant difference between the medians of the children's DMFT index of municipal establishments and particular establishments (Test of Mood's medians: x2= 0,99; GL=1; p-value = 0,321). Significant differences do not also exist in the behavior of the variations of the DMFT when compared both groups (Levene's Test: Q = 1,54: P- valor = 0,215), it is accepted that the DMFT index tends to behave without differences according to school establishment of the children. Conclusions: The program favors social equity and is effective to reduce decayded and missing teeth.
