Dynamic instabilities in tunneling through mesoscopic devices

Abstract

Tunneling of electrons through a spatially confined mesoscopic region leads to charge storing whose feedback over the tunneling current gives rise to strong instabilities. We discuss two types of instabilities and comment on their potential applications in switching or oscillatory action.
