A new perturbation method. Application to the Benard-von Karman instability in the subcritical regime
Abstract
We report an experimental perturbation method to produce local spatio-temporal velocity perturbations. It has been successfully tested on the Benard-von Karman instability for a circular cylinder at subcritical Reynolds numbers Re < Re-c. It is found to be useful in determining some physical properties of the instability.
