Abstract

The theory of habitus has been widely spread in sociology within the past four decades and has been used for the analysis of different research fields. It is based on the affirmation of the social character of the dispositions that teke us to act, as a result of the conditions and social experiences to which we have been exposed furin our lives. Formulated by Pierre Bourdieu, the concept of habitus refers to a system of long-term dispositions. However, the processes of formation of the habitus and the impact of the actors's reflexivity remain unclear. This paper aims to question the concept of habitus as a system of disposicitions by revising its philosophical origins and questioning the ontology on what this theory has been founded.
