Abstract

ABSTRACT The present study will not address in itself the rationality of Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1178), already investigated carefully, since it primarily seeks to verify a working hypothesis, which reads as follows: "Human reason, which is faced with the congenital dilemma: content with its finitude or transcend the Infinite, transcends -effectively- to the infinite in the Holy Spirit, for love ". This hypothesis, which arose from an approximate and at the same time rigorous reading of Liber Divinorum Operum, masterpiece of the abbess of the Rhine, aims to demonstrate that the sentencing of the rationalitas in the LDO explicit concrete facets of a reason able to transcend, from its constitution connatural in the Holy Spirit by love. Nevertheless, constantly exposed to the danger of succumbing to the multiple influences that challenge man, as soon as he is in the world, he turns on himself. Faced with this dilemma, the present study explores: in what way does the rationalitas Hildegardiana face such a dilemma, and to what extent does it overcome it?
