Historical-discursive considerations about some consecutive connectors on Bible translations into Spanish from 13th to 16th century

Abstract

This work seeks (i) to reflect on the biblical translations to Spanish from the perspective of Discursive Traditions (DT) and (ii) to compare some consecutive markers according to its discursive distribution. Accordingly, the first phase is mainly theoretical: it's presented a description of three important periods in the production of Spanish Bible translations between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries, and the methodological advantages of studying the language of the Bible translation from the framework of DT. The second phase, more applied, involves the statistical analysis of a selection of consecutive markers. On this basis, different types of reflections are exposed, which contribute to the diachronic detailed description of discourse markers and to the understanding of Spanish evolution since the early middle Ages to the Golden Age.
