Structure refinement of samarium monothio oxide

Abstract

The crystal structure of samarium monothio sulfide, was solved using single crystal refined data. Sm2O2S, crystallizes in the trigonal system with space group P3?m1 (no. 164), Z = 1 and cell constants a = 388.7(1) pm and c = 670.9(3) pm. The discrepancy indices of the single crystal structure refinement were R1 = 0.031 and wR2 = 0.077. Sm2O2S is isostructural with M2O2S (M = La, Ce, Nd, and Tm). The structure can be described as a packing of S-2 and O-2 anions with Sm+3 located in the center of a capped octahedron in which the seventh ligand (an oxygen atom) has been added to the triangular face formed only by O atoms.
