Abstract

In this research an analytical model of a self-centring semi-rigid connection with energy dissipation capacity to be used in wooden frame structures is presented. A rudimentary model of said connection was conceived and implemented at the base of a wooden column, which was subjected to cyclic static tests. Some asymmetry in the elastic component and lack of self-centring capacity of the connection was observed in the first group of tests. Unwanted dependence of the frictional moment was observed with the rotation of the connection. In a second stage the physical model of the connection was improved, achieving the desired frictional behaviour, remaining some asymmetry of the elastic component and lack of self-centring capacity. The experimental results were used to calibrate the parameters of the analytical equation that describes the mechanical behaviour of this connection. The average relative error between experimental and analytical results in one complete cycle was determined, being less than 5% for large deformations. The equivalent damping estimated for structures with natural period between 0.1s and 0,5s was between 2 and 10% of the critical damping respectively. In the second set of tests, the experimental results showed a better fit with the analytical prediction. The above demonstrates the fidelity of the proposed analytical model.
