A novel non-linear model for multilayer rubber bearing isolators with load interaction

Maureira, Nelson

Abstract

A novel non-linear mathematical model is proposed to characterize the mechanical behaviour of a circular elastomeric rubber bearing isolator. This model considers the geometric non-linearities due to large deformations. It represents the coupling between axial and shear loads, with the corresponding vertical and lateral displacements, including the loss of axial and lateral stiffness in the isolator generated by excessive lateral displacements and axial load. This model is capable of characterizing the isolator behaviour under tensile and compressive loads and its effect on the lateral stiffness and the corresponding buckling load. The proposed model is also able to characterize the internal strain-stress state in any rubber sheet.
