Abstract
Given the importance of traditional seeds and varieties on biodiversity and rural culture, their conservation requires measures tailored to local economic and sociocultural conditions. Through interviews, attitudes and preferences of farmers for improvements in the conservation of the carrot landrace from Chiuchiu indigenous community of northern Chile were studied. The most valued attributes correspond to postharvest duration and local adaptation. Despite the low self-supply of seed and deterioration of the variety, most farmers would be willing to participate in a conservation program and to allocate part of their farms to implement best practices.
