Abstract

With the advance of technology, jobs remain at great risk of extinction. Or as Joseph Schumpeter said, we will only see a new phase of creative destruction. We still do not know if the economy of the fourth industrial revolution will have the capacity to generate new jobs at the same rate of its destruction. Faced with this scenario, the labor law acts as the protectionist factor, mainly in the constitutions that guarantee a right to work, and in those, like the Brazilian case, that specifically speak of a protection against automation. This article seeks to argue about the role of basic income in the new labor scenario and how it can contribute to strengthen the workers’ rights.
