Abstract
This communication is part of the execution of the FPN1501 Performance Agreement, the main objective of which is to "promote professional and technical training offered at the Academia Politécnica Naval Polytechnical Academy (Apolinav) in Chile, through teacher upskilling, access to information, and the development of mechanisms for quality assurance to innovate the curriculum." Following the action-research methodology, a teacher upskilling course has been designed and implemented on the use of tools and technological resources for teaching and b-learning that is aimed at 550 teachers from the Seafarers area, for the the academic year 2016/2017. The course has been designed on the basis of the results of a diagnostic study on digital-teaching skills within the framework of the same project. Despite the most outstanding results obtained from the teacher upskilling course, together with the basic level of digital competences, the lack of skilled autonomous work by teachers throughout the training process, as well as their resistance to change—either with respect to the introduction of active methodologies that require their participation or with regard to the incorporation of ICTs in the teaching–learning process—has been a cause for concern. Given the results obtained, it is concluded that for the effective incorporation of ICTs into the teaching–learning process—together with training in the use and implementation of technological tools and resources and perfecting and updating the teaching style and skills of in-service teachers is fundamental.
