Abstract

The article analyzes the impact of the so-called Polish October (1956) on Chilean society and its political and social forces. The effect of the Polish events on the Chilean society of the time can be observed through the analysis of primary sources available in Chile: documentation of the Historical Archives of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, minutes of the sessions of the Chilean Parliament, and the press of the time as well as the revision of an extensive variety of secondary literature. The research was complemented by the stay of one of the researchers in Poland, May 2010, which allowed him to review documents and Polish literature
