Abstract

This paper presents an evaluation of the navigation and control system of the UAV Ar.Drone 2.0 made by Parrot. The evaluation of this system is addressed considering an application to educational experiences in the development of concepts of spatiality in preschool children. We achieve to replicate the control and navigation system developed by Engel (2012) and adapt it to be used for preschool children could be manning discrete movements of the UAV inside a classroom. Tryouts of the control and navigation system were taken in order to measure the position errors for discrete movements in space. Position errors measured in this work present an RMSE lower than 8 cm, although position errors on the vertical axis are even lower. The system was also used in classroom with children of NT2 (kinder grade) and first grade, using a teaching model to support the learning of concepts of spatiality. In this study was found that while the system is sufficient to implement the model of learning, it is highly desirable decrease these errors of position in the UAV.
