Hypoxia related miRNA expression in periodontitis patients: a case control study.

Keywords: Hypoxia, miRNA, periodontitis

Abstract

microRNAs (miRNAs) are 21–23-nucleotide non-protein -coding RNA molecules that act as negative regulators of gene expression, modulating the stability and/or the translational efficiency of target messenger RNAs. miRNAs have been demonstrated to play an important role in regulation of the immuno- inflammatory response; however, the function of miRNAs in periodontal inflammation has not been well investigated, because inflamed periodontium is thought to be hypoxic, we hipothesize that miRNA are upregulated in inflammed periodontal tissues.
