Abstract

Early studies showing colour and translucency discordance among composites with its respective samples, are based in the use of spectrophotometers and translucency comparator equipment wich are not available for the clinic dentist. The present work aims to compare translucency grades among determined composte colours of different trade marks through photometeres available for professionals, so as to facilitate their choose according to the clinical case. Composite Z 100, TPH and Glacier A2, A3 and A3.5 colours, P 60 and Sure Fil, colours B and C werw used. With each of them 3 samples in Gravopoly drilled plates, 1.6 mm thickness and 6 mm diameter circular drills, a glass slide under the plate and litlle portions of composite with a teflin spatula up to fill the circles were placed, over them another slide was positioned for exerting stress. Then each of them was photopolimerized, according to each manufacter´s directions with Visilux 2 lamp. Every sample was place over a photometer (Demetron) and over it the beam lamp, measures recorder in the instrument were scored. Subsequently, each sample was placed over a drilled black box and on proceeded to measure the natural light passage by means of a photographic incidental light photometer (Sekonic). Significant Differences for a same coloured composites in the evaluated marks (p<0.001) through test F and test T were found. It is concluded than even though the trade marks offer colours of composite homologous to VITA sample, there no exists a totality concordance among them in its translucency.
