Liquid-liquid and solid-liquid equilibrium of the 1-propanol plus lithium sulfate plus water system at 25, 35 and 45 degrees C

Taboada, ME

Abstract

The phase diagram for the Li2SO4-CH3CH2CH2OH-H 2O system was determined at 25, 35 and 45°C. It was found that the effect of the temperature on the phase equilibrium was insignificant within the range utilized in the study. The binodal curves were fitted using a four-parameter equation. Also, the tie lines were fitted using the Othmer-Tobias and Bancroft correlations. Correlation coefficients (Rreg) for all the equations exceeded 0.98. Physical properties determined for the system studied included: density, refractive index, viscosity, and conductivity of the biphasic equilibrium. The data generated are of interest in the design of processes for the crystallization of Li2SO4. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
