Abstract

During a study of the fungi from a semi-arid region of northern Chile, a novel species of Aspergillus was encountered in the soil from an area where pepper trees (Schinusmolle) were growing. Marker genes were sequenced to identify these isolates. The beta-tubulin, calmodulin and DNA-dependent RNA polymerase loci all indicated that this was a novel species in Aspergillus section Nidulantes and in the Aspergillus multicolorclade. The new species was studied morphologically and differences between it and the other members of the A. multicolor Glade are described. We provide a name and description for these isolates as Aspergillus incahuasiensis sp. nov.
