We are an example of library: The case of a successful school library
Abstract
This article presents a case study with the main objective of gathering research regarding the operation of a school library ranked as successful within its particular socio-educational context. The research was carried out in a Barcelona public school with the following methods of the data collection: participant observation, semistructured interviews with three school teachers and a student and alumni survey on reading habits. The results demonstrate the high diversity in the educational practices developed, a shared vision regarding the library among teaching staff, and the influence of school intervention on student reading habits. It can be concluded that knowledge of cases demonstrating the success of school libraries has the potential to inspire new community policies in the field.
