Abstract

The light-fidelity (Li-Fi) communication systems have found great concern in both of industry and academy. The light emitting diode (LED) lamps are used as a source of light in addition to communication transmitter. The dual functionality of LED lamps in Li-Fi systems has imposed several design and additional challenges on their power electronics drivers. Thence, this paper presents the analysis and estimations of power losses of LED lamps in Li-Fi atto-cell systems. This analysis defines the extra power consumption due to the operation and nonlinear behavior of LED lamps. In addition, thermal analysis of LED lamps is provided in order to determine the excess thermal heating and lifetime consumption of the LED lamp in Li-Fi systems. Results of the proposed analysis and design method are provided using datasheet parameters of the LED lamp in addition to practical operating condition of the system.
