Abstract

In recent years it has become evident the profound disparity existing in Chile in relation to access to medicines by the population, being the uneven spatial distribution of pharmacies one of the crucial points of the problem. This article approaches this topic from a historical perspective, focusing on the city of Santiago during a period of transition between the pharmacy in charge of an apothecary and the modern pharmacy that begins to organize business to sell medicines produced industrially by national and international laboratories.
