Looking Back: the Voice of Physical Education Teachers about their Professional Career in a Multicultural School

Abstract

This paper explores what physical education teachers with more than five years of experience think about their career (perceptions, feelings, actions, etc.) in schools with more than 50% immigrant students. From a qualitative perspective, a multiple case study (n=12) was conducted in the province of Barcelona. Semi-structured interviews and non-participant observations were the instruments used, and content analysis was employed to interpret them. As a general conclusion, this study revealed that, despite all the difficulties that teachers found throughout their careers, most of them had a very positive perception of their emotional mood and their professional career in a multicultural school. This could debunk the social image of this school as problematic and conflictive for students and teaching staff.
