Abstract

The study analyzes the social representations around the elderly that were generated in the main Chilean media for a year. 4,176 news items were collected in 290 portals using data mining from Twitter through a platform called Sophia. The headlines, downloads and the first two paragraphs were analyzed. The predominant representations are those of a caricatured, fragile and dependent elderly. These results are compared with studies conducted in Argentina, Colombia and Spain, which reveal old age as a problem.
