Kinetic effects on the parametric decays of circularly polarized electromagnetic waves in a relativistic pair plasma

Abstract

The parametric decays of a circularly polarized electromagnetic wave in an electron-positron plasma were analyzed using kinetic theory. Fully relativistic effects were considered and kinetic effects were assumed to be relevant only along the propagation direction of the pump wave. An instability was found for ultra-relativistic temperature and velocity. The results show that growth rates increase as temperature decreases and again a reversal is seen if temperature is small enough and ? is large.
