Nursing care to an infant with amendment of psychomotor development

Abstract

Health care for children in Chile is carried out through the control of children’s health in the Family Health Centers (CESFAM). Through this strategy, nurses can monitor growth and development, implement health promotion activities as well as detect anomalies in a timely manner. One of the problems frequently investigated is the alterations of the psychomotor development. This article aims to analyze the case of an infant with altered psychomotor development in a CESFAM of the commune of Valparaíso, with the purpose of identifying the most relevant aspects of Nursing care and follow up to solve this problem of Health. To do this, the Nursing process was used with the approach of the theory of the 14 necessities of Virginia Henderson, obtaining an adequate systematization of information and the subsequent delivery of care to the infant and his family. We conclude with respect to the importance of the work of the nurse around the timely investigation of alterations of the psychomotor development, the health promotion of this problem, the multidisciplinary effort and the commitment of the family nucleus.
