Calidad del cuidado enfermero en un centro quirúrgico: Experiencia en un hospital de Ibarra, Ecuador

Abstract
Introduction: Management for the quality of care must be developed within the framework of a philosophy that ensures comprehensive, personalized and risk-free care. In the surgical environment, the person becomes part of a system that implies additional risks to those of any hospitalization area. Objetive: To improve the quality of nursing care in the surgical center of the San Vicente de Paul Hospital, in Ibarra, Ecuador. Methods: The methodology of the logical framework was used in the identification of the problems that interfered in the quality of care and the planning of a matrix where the narrative summary of the objectives was organized, the verifiable indicators for each level, the means of verification and the assumptions. 12 nurses and 348 patients participated. Results: With the participation of all the staff, five basic protocols of nursing care were designed and a training plan was developed on the application of the same, confirming its use during the three months after its design. In addition, the process of delivery of shift reception was implemented based on the established regulations. Conclusions: The methodology used improved nursing care and the safety of users in the surgical center, thereby improving their satisfaction with the care received.
