Abstract

Polyphenols are commonly found in fruits and vegetables, and shows antibiotic, antitumor, antioxidant and antiviral properties1. High content of these compounds, especially anthocyanins and HCAs have been described in calafate (Berberis microphylla) berries2. To date, no information of polyphenol content, nor biologic activity has been described in leaves. The objective of the present research was to characterize Hydroxycinnamic acids (HCAs) in berries and leaves extracts and to determine their biological activity using cellular models and microbiologic methods.
