Controlled generation of maximally entangled qudits using twin photons

Abstract

The use of two-photon fields generated by spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) for creating maximally entangled states of multidimensional quantum systems, qudits, was discussed. Different transverse spatial modes of the twin photons were used to define the logic states. By sending the components of the two-photon field through an array of multislits, these spatial modes were created. It was shown that experimental facilities allow generating maximally entangled states up to an eight-dimensional system.
