Abstract

Melodrama is at the center of communications studies in Latin America, and its influences cross over to countries such as Turkey, Japan and Korea. From in-depth interviews, the perceptions of telenovela screenwriters about the doramas are explored. The aim is to distinguish, from the case of the Japanese series Switched, the recognizable characteristics that enhance the mediation and appropriation of its contents in Latin America, as well as the melodramatic narrative and audiovisual elements of these products that are revealed as recognizable for the region.
