Abstract

A better comprehension of personality disorders of inmates in prison is necessary to achieve the objective of a sentence: the rehabilitation and reintegration of the prisoner. The objective of this article is to study the prevalence of personality disorders in a sample of 345 inmates in prison, according to the criteria of ICD-10 by the screening instrument IPDE-SQ. The 92.2% (n = 317) of participants is likely to have at least one disorder, and 75.4% (n = 260) comorbidity, the most prevalent is the schizoid disorder (58.8%), followed by anankastic (57.7%) and paranoid (48.7%). It is concluded that the high level of overall prevalence and comorbidity justify the need for greater attention, especially in the case of the most prevalent disorders, usually unnoticed in prisons, due to the regular use of instruments based on DSM criteria. Keywords: personality disorder, international personality disorder examination-screening questionnaire, prevalence and prison
