Abstract

This research proposes the study of the urban imaginary of Valparaiso from the literature of Carlos Leon. Specifically, the study was centered in the analysis of the “Intimate geography” of the city in Obras completas (2004). In this sense, and contrary to the views of the city performed by traditional literature (port, bohemian, adventurous), this view contributes to the construction of Valparaiso as a "different country". The "intimate geography" of Valparaiso is mediated by both the autobiographical literature and the antithetical images that forming a heterogeneous identity of Valparaíso.
