Abstract

This paper proposes a critical reading of modernity from the figure 'pariah' as has been worked by Eleni Varikas feminist thinker. The aim is to examine some of the political strategies used by 'modern pariahs' to survive a paradoxical existential experience from which both 'equality' and 'difference' are experienced as exclusion. Thus, from the work developed by Varikas, this work proposed to examine some Latin American examples where 'shame' is displayed as a political category.
