Abstract

Climate change is a global phenomenon, which affects all areas of the planet, but the response of peoples, nations and religions is not homogeneous. Faced with the need to move forward in a transition to more efficient and cleaner energies - one of the factors having the greatest impact in reducing greenhouse gases - we need to question the role of religions facing this challenge. The response of churches to the environmental crisis has been evident. Although ecological perspectives have developed in recent times in theologies and ethics, the fate of the planet in the different religions of the world is widely present and the spirituality of creation motivates the protection of the environment. Despite this, the world's religions do not seem to have climate change and the energy transition among their main concerns. This article explores how religions in different socio-cultural contexts (Germany, Taiwan, Australia and South America) approach, face and assume climate change and energy transition, a theme that has not been addressed enough in the social sciences.
