Abstract

In the last decades, in Chile, there has been a growing interest in the existence of diverse economic forms that allow recognizable alternatives to the dominant economic development model in Chile. This claim is relevant for the case of the Valparaíso region, which has been linked predominantly to extractive economic activities such as mining, extensive monocultures and real estate activity. In this context, this article aims to know and characterize experiences of diverse economies in different territories of the Valparaíso Region, which allow deepening the understanding of "other" possible territorial developments, all supported by a quantitative and qualitative methodology. The results acknowledge, both nationally and for Valparaiso, a historical growth of cooperatives of diverse items, a process compared to the greater development of this type of initiatives. Six cases are proposed that allow to understand and deepen the heterogeneity of these economic forms, which, without being free from difficulties and challenges, allow proposing and projecting "other" possible forms of territorial development.
