Abstract

The central theme in this work is the government of the university in Latin America. How are universities governed on this continent? The central purpose of this article is to problematize the contribution of university modes of government in Latin America. The methodology is based on a qualitative approach, which implies prioritizing the interpretive point of view of the facts. The instruments for the collection of data are fundamentally review of the literature of the most connoted authors in this field. The results point in the direction of coverage and better retention of the academic of the poorest sectors and with greater relevance and quality training. Qualification in its form of government, academy and administration; With innovative, creative, responsible, autonomous and effective governance in society and the public sector, with the development of its environment, with evident progress in a region and even the country. It is concluded that it is not only an exclusive model of university governance that will bring success to Latin American institutions, but also the set of factors that are added to these management regimes - in the plural - because it is believed that successful management coexists several models for Guarantee quality, universalization, research and development.
