FROM RESEARCHER AFFILIATION TO WRITER AFFILIATION: ROLAND BARTHES AND THE INTELLECTUAL CRISIS SEMINAR

Abstract

In this article, we describe the Roland Barthes' passage from criticism to literary writing, based on the analysis of the handwritten notes of his seminar "The notion of idiolect", offered in 1970-1971 at the Ecole de Hautes Etudes en Sciences Social. In order to do this, we try to understand his change of affiliation, at first focusing mainly on theoretical references (such as linguistics of enunciation, semiology and stylistics) and then on a single literary reference: Bouvard and Pecuchet, by Gustave Flaubert. This text is part of a larger project, which proposes the narrative of all the seminars offered at the Ecole by Roland Barthes, from 1962 to 1977, from the Roland Barthes' Found, in the National Library of France.
