Abstract

Lanthanoid complexes have become an important type of material since their interesting magnetic and optical properties. Single Ion Magnets based on lanthanoid systems correspond to the second generation of Single Molecule Magnets, which are coordination compounds that present slow relaxation of the magnetization at low temperature. Furthermore, the fact that f orbitals are shielded by s and p orbitals makes the optical properties of lanthanoid complexes very interesting for the fabrication of luminescent devices. In this way, the used of rigid inorganic ligands such as lacunary polyoxometalates and organic aromatics ligands could permit the obtaining of complexes, in which the magnetic properties can be modified by the substitution of the organic ligands, then these complexes could be able to work as antennas improving their optical properties. In this work are presented a new type of lanthanoid complexes based in the inorganic ligand, [PW11O39]7- and phenanthroline (phen) as an organic ligand, [NBu4]3H[Ln(PW11O39)(phen)2].
