Abstract

Objective: This article presents the results of the research project DIUBB 165124 4 / R that seeks to deepen the process of formulating the social diagnosis in health from the perspective of the professional group of social work, historically defined by health regulations as technical responsible for the process. Method: Qualitative study carried out in the professional group of social work that works in the health sector in the cities of Concepción, Valparaíso, Viña del Mar and Temuco. Indepth interviews and discussion groups were used to collect data. Results: The purpose of the social diagnosis in health distinguishes the search for information for its formulation and the commitment of a future action from the trial. Its elaboration standards are obtained from international organizations and from public health policies, complemented with formulations of sectoral public policies. The foundation of the social diagnosis in health, a wide spectrum of frameworks and theoretical-conceptual assumptions and value frames that sustain you is confirmed. The quality of the diagnosis in health, ensures its rigor with the reliability of the information collected through professional skills related to different forms of knowledge generation that are valued as guarantors of technical quality. Conclusions: In the Chilean health sector, social diagnosis is conceived as a key instrument under professional responsibility of social work that refers informed judgments in various contexts and lines of action, being a key tool especially in the areas of family health, mental health and health community.
