Organizando el otro deseo de las Indias: la expansión periférica de la Compañía de Jesús en América (Chile, 1568-1593)

Abstract

The article explores the peripheral expansion of the Society of Jesus in America. Discussions, organizations and projections of the Jesuits missions in the South frontier of the Peruvian Viceroyalty between 1570 and 1593, are analyzed. For this, Chilean case is taking as a test fragment. Regarding the same subject, a period in that Chilean Historiography has not taking into consideration it is examined, due to before the effective arrival in 1593, an intense epistolary network was created among Rome, Lima and Spain. This dealt with the problems that Jesuits had when they came to Chile. The expansion was adjacent to the Roman guidelines and the imperial policies of the Monarchy of Spain.
