Abstract

This study analyzed the personality traits of the model known as 'Big Five' as predictors of academic performance. A sample of psychology students (N=135) from the Universidad de Tarapaca, Chile, was used. The personality dimensions were correlated with academic performance, measured through the use of two dependent variables: Average Grades and Courses Passed. Results show that the Conscientiousness dimension is the best and only predictor of academic performance, with a correlation of 0.29 for Average Grades and 0.26 for Courses Passed. Also, a mixed indicator was elaborated with both variables of academic performance, a correlation of 0.35 being obtained by Conscientiousness.
