Abstract

in this work the resuIts of a study on the measurement and analysis of the concentration of particle material (P.M. 2,5) and the presence in this of organic components in the atmosphere. The study was carried out in the city of La Serena-Chile in the urban sector denominated Colina el Pino, located to the south east of the center of the city" The sampling was done once a week from April to october 2002. The Value 65 uglm3 given by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was taken as the standard for 2,5 P.M. it was determine that only three times during the period of study the concentration was higher than the established limit" The content of organic matter is 4,03% and the compounds presented are lineal, aromatic and polyaromatic hydrocarbons. It is concluded that the presence of particIe mate「iaI P.M. 2,5 in this city is low and periods of high concentrations are not found.
