Abstract
The restructuring of rural economies gives women a key role in regional development bymeans of activities related to rural tourism. There persists, however, a gender gap in labour market participa-tion. The objective of this research is the analysis of working conditions and wages in rural tourism as com-pared with predominantly urban areas in Spain. This contributes to analyzing the challenges of social andterritorial cohesion from a gender perspective. The results show that women in predominantly rural areaswork under worse conditions and face a greater gender pay gap.
