Aesthetics in politics, politics in art: the Latin American experience and its link with modernity

Abstract

This article provides some ideas from a Latin American perspective on which is set the emergence of collective artistic expressions that have been linked to resistance and social critique. The main objective of this research is to report on the artists who were grouped into the 60s in southern Latin American cone to challenge the art institution, connected with popular demands and their resistance to the art form of consumption. The global perspective of the emergence of the Collective Tucumán Arde, the guerrilla group Tupamaro and manifesto of MICLA, serves to illustrate the close relationship between the social aspects and the artistic actions that have had a strong influence on the political action of forefront in Latin America. The research has been done relating their modus operandi, their steps and activities that have been used to convey a message with a political edge. The review of bibliographic records, video, and audiovisual testimonies have built this investigation.
