Abstract

This paper presents a laboratory study in order to evaluate the effect of the parameters water content, curing time and binder content on the mechanical properties of a soft soil chemically stabilised. The moisture content ranges from 100 to 120% and the binder content ranges from 5% to 15% (ratio of the binder dry weight to soil dry weight). Additionally, it was prepared samples for 7 and 28 days of curing time. The study is based on a soft soil with properties similar to the ones find in Chile, more specifically in Magallanes region. The results showed that, the unconfined compressive strength increases with the binder content but decreases as the moisture content increases. The results highlighted that the unconfined compressive strength is also dependent on the curing time. This laboratory study aims to give support to a future research about Magallanes soft soils chemically stabilised.
