Neoliberal Political Economy and Adult Education in Chile: Notes about the Curriculum of Consumption and Quality of Life

Abstract

This text is the result of the content analysis of the educational programs of the Instrumental Training of adult education in Chile. The subject analyzed is entitled Consumption and Quality of Life, and is mandatory for all who have not completed their studies. The programs were published in 2007 by the Ministry of Education of the State of Chile and are currently in force without any update. The aim of this paper is to analyze the production and reproduction of senses present in the different thematic units, the objectives, the contents and the expected learning, as well as in the structure and the conceptual apparatus displayed to articulate said production throughout the document programmatic. The analysis of the different components of the curriculum shows the internalization, representation and learning of a certain way of life as the correct way, naturalizing neoliberal elements that strengthen the dynamics of financial capitalism in Chile without an objective treatment.
