Abstract

Current applications in Electric Vehicle Powertrains require a fixed switching frequency to ensure the life time of commercial inverter semiconductors. Recently the use of Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control in power electronics and electrical drives has been widely reported with interesting theoretical and experimental results. Predictive Torque Control has been performed to drive electric motors with high-performance and fast dynamics. However, the obtained switching frequency spectrum of the inverter is spread over a wide frequency range limited only by the sampling frequency implementation. According with the literature, the switching frequency adjustment has been achieved by combining the predictive algorithm with well-known modulation-based approaches. In this paper an enhanced switching period adjustment is presented to avoid the use of modulators and retain the structure of Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control. Simulation results are presented to validate the performance of the proposed control algorithm.
