Propuesta Didáctica y el uso de la Tabla Periódica y de los Elementos Químicos

Abstract
The traditional teaching in Chile is based in the use of memory, predetermined questions and mechanical answers. This is in detriment of the student´s deep understanding of the scientific facts, causes and critical thinking that are developed in the different theories, laws and applications of science. Moreover, students are reticent to study chemistry since, according to the social imaginary, this subject is really difficult to understand and unlikely to apply in common life. This essay tries to show a new option to understand the traditional periodic table in a more meaningful and practical way. In doing so, the traditional table may be seen not only as a passive instrument but as a tool that is able to mediate between the students and their own learning process according to the newest pedagogical school of thought. “THE ELECTRONIC CONFIGURATION AND CHEMISTRY ELEMENTS TABLE”(TCEYEQ), presented in the following theses, is an innovation created to facilitate, on one hand, the study of the properties, organization and reactivity of the matter and, on the other hand, to understand how the chemical elements participate in the phenomena in different disciplines within science. Different and dynamic didactic materials will be used to put this innovation into practice. In order to verify the effectiveness of the used pedagogical resources, they were used by first year students from high school “Liceo de Aplicación”. As a conclusion, this paper gives a new method that may be used to enrich teachinglearning process for two main reasons: First, because the teacher can build up new didactic resources that achieve the challenge of both motivating and developing the students´ capacities. Second, because the students may be capable of acquire a more significant scientific knowledge. Keywords: periodic table, educational strategies, didactic materials and resources, teaching materials.
