Keywords: terminología, identidad profesional, conservación y restauración

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to make a terminological analysis of the terms that define Conservation and Restoration professionals in Brazil, discussing the question of the variation of the terms “conservator”, “restorer” and “conservator-restorer”, and their relationship with the construction of a professional identity. Terminology methodology is used, with a punctual approach, applied in the corpus conformed by the communications presented, and later published, in the Annals of the Brazilian Association of Conservators- Restorers of Cultural Heritage (ABRACOR). Considering the interest in terms as a unit of communication and representation of knowledge, the presuppositions established by two current strands of Terminology: Socioterminology and Communicative Theory of Terminology (TCT) were adopted as theoretical reference. From the terminological analysis, it was verified that there is a variation of the terms applied by Brazilian professionals. The need to harmonize terms as a necessary step for the advancement of the area, especially in matters of identity and professional recognition, is in the end suggested.
